The European wind industry contributed €36bn to the EU’s GDP in 2016, supports 263,000 jobs and generated €8bn of exports outside of Europe. These are the main findings of a new report, “Local Impact, Global Leadership” carried out by Deloitte for WindEurope and on 28 November 2017 at the WindEurope 2017. The report also outlines what the wind industry saves Europe in terms of reduced fossil fuel imports (€32bn from 2011-2016) and CO2 emissions (166 million tons of CO2 in 2016) and what it contributes to government tax revenues (€4.9bn in 2016). The report shows how wind energy creates value not only for the wind industry but for the wider economy. Every €1,000 of turnover generated in the wind industry generates €250 of economic activity in other sectors such as metals, chemicals, electrical equipment and machinery, construction and engineering. On November 28, 2017, within the framework of international conference and exhibition WindEurope 2017 hold in Amsterdam, Netherlands, the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association (UWEA) and the Turkish Wind Energy Association (TWEA) signed a Memorandum on Partnership and Cooperation. Following the signing of the Memorandum the first working meeting between the representatives of UWEA and TWEA was organised the same day, during which representatives of the wind energy sectors of Ukraine and Turkey discussed the possibilities of cooperation aimed at the large-scale implementation of wind energy technologies and the further successful development of the sector. IX International Investment Business Forum “Renewable Energy and Energy Efficient Modernization of Industry” initiated by the State Agency of Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine was successfully held in Kyiv on 23 November 2017. On 14 - 16 November 2017, a delegation from the Republic of Belarus visited Ukraine to explore the Ukraine's experience in renewable energy development within the framework of the international technical assistance project “Removing Barriers to Wind Energy Development in the Republic of Belarus”. The 6th Turkish Wind Energy Congress hosted by the Turkish Wind Energy Association (TWEA) was successfully held in Ankara on 1-2 November 2017. An opening ceremony of new 20,7 MW wind power plant Staryi Sambir-2 took place on 26 October 2017 in Starosambirskiy district, Lviv region. The project has been implemented by a company Carpathian Wind LLC (Eco-Optima Group). The wind power plant comprising of 6 WTGs V112 Vestas 3,45 MW is expected to generate 56 mln kWh per year, enough to supply population of two local districts with green electricity.
