13th World Wind Energy Conference WWEC2014, organized by the World Wind Energy Association, the Chinese Wind Energy Association, Chinese Wind Energy Equipment Association and the China National Renewable Energy Centre, was successfully hold from April 7 to April 9, 2014 in Shanghai, China. 500 delegates from 40 countries attended this Conference. The Conference covered all aspects of wind utilisation, related policies, manufacturing, development and operation, as well as economic and social issues, with a special focus on the role that distributed wind power can play to accelerate the deployment of wind power in the world.
The Conference welcomed the Chinese government's efforts to reduce dependency of the Chinese power generation on polluting fossil resources, primarily coal. China not only became world leader in wind power installations, but in the year 2013, for the first time new investment in renewable energy power generation exceeded new investment in fossil generation.
Focusing on the integration of wind power into existing power systems, the participants called for creation of smart grids and enhancing decentralised synergies between the various renewable energy solutions in order to achieve an integrated 100 % renewable energy supply in the foreseeable future.
The Conference recognised that training and education should be key elements of a strategy aiming at mainstreaming wind power and supported the initiative to create the World Small Wind Training and Testing Center.
Andriy Konechenkov, Chairman of the Board of the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association during his presentation " Wind Power in Ukraine Before and After the Adoption of the "Green" Tariff” said: “The state policy which aims at developing renewable energy sources in the country creates an attractive investment climate in the country, which in turn, always contributes to the accelerated development of the wind industry”. Andriy Konechenkov also noted that due to the annexation of the Crimea a major wind power projects in the Crimea had been suspended that negatively impacted the development of the Ukrainian wind energy.
Dr. Anil Kane, the Indian wind energy pioneer, was awarded with the World Wind Energy Award 2014 as one of the pioneers of wind power in India, Asia and worldwide.
The World Wind Energy Conference WWEC 2015 will be held in Jerusalem in 2015.
