4th International Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Forum REF-2012 Kyiv organized by IBCentre jointly with the Association of Alternative Fuels and Energy Market Participants of Ukraine (APEU) in cooperation with the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine was successfully held on October 16-17, 2012 in Kyiv. Around 350 renewable energy market players, industry officials, world-famous experts, investors and industry leaders representing more than 20 countries gathered at the event. During two days participants examined the country’s progress to-date, the policies in place, discussed problems to be solved for further effective development of Renewable energies in the country, fulfillment of the conditions of Energy Community as well as increasing adaptability to manufacture and competitiveness of the Ukrainian market.
Ukrainian Wind Energy Association, as an industrial partner of REF 2012, actively participated in the event. During his speech at the forum Andriy Konechenkov, chairman of UWEA, said “By the mid of 2012 installed capacity of Ukrainian wind energy industry came up to 200 MW. This corresponds to the growth of national wind park by 75%. At the same time there are a number of barriers to more widespread and prompt promotion of RE technologies and wind technology in particular. The barriers the national wind industry is currently facing with include: politicization of the licensing process related to grid connection issues and the local content requirement".
The main industrial trade show GREENEXPO | Alternative Energy 2012 (October 17-19, 2012) became a logical continuation of the forum. 65 companies from Ukraine, Austria, Germany, Belgium, Greece, China, Lithuania, Netherlands, Russian, Hungary and Czech presented innovative RE technologies and equipment. Together, these two most important events in renewable energy market of Ukraine were the basis of renewable energy week (15-18 October 2013) that was held for the first time in the country. Participation in the forum, and visiting exposition where the main exhibitors were the major renewable energy market players, allowed guests to have their own complete and objective opinion about the sector.
“Success of 4th International Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Forum REF-2012 and GREENEXPO Alternative Energy 2012 exhibition highlighted the growing interest of international organizations and institutions in renewable energy market in Ukraine”, said Andriy Konechenkov.
