Andriy Konechenkov, Chairman of the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association, has been elected for the second time as Chairman of the Public Council at State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine (SAEE). The first meeting of the newly elected Public Council at SAEE (as of July 15, 2014, it includes 10 organizations active in the field of renewable energy and energy conservation) was held on July 15, 2014.
Speaking at a press conference held immediately after the meeting, Andriy Konechenkov noted that SAEE encountered difficulty in promoting energy conservation policy through artificial barriers that arose during the coordination of laws and policies by other ministries and departments.
Therefore, the public organizations consider it appropriate to provide the Agency with a special status and its direct subordination to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to quickly coordinate and make decisions about energy efficiency measures and renewable energies in Ukraine.
“Improved energy efficiency in Ukraine will reduce the final consumption of energy resources in agricultural, industrial, construction, service and residential sectors by 45.8% that corresponds to about 29.3 billion cubic meters of natural gas”, stressed Andriy Konechenkov. “At present, energy conservation and substitution of imported fossil fuel energy by domestic renewables should be a priority in Ukraine to strengthen its energy independence and national security”.
