APPEAL TO THE GLOBAL WIND COMMUNITY

City of Kiev

March 5, 2014

Dear Friends and Colleagues!

The process of democratization has not been easy in the country. But the Ukraine has changed forever and became the EU-oriented state. The last winter events ended by toppling Yanukovych regime have clearly proved it.

One of the economic problems existing in Ukraine is “gas” issue, which solution monopoly depends on the position of Gazprom of Russia. For sure, diversification of its energy carrier sources is obligatory for Ukraine to become independent from the Russian gas. Renewable energy must play a key role in addressing this issue. Ukraine possesses huge potential for wide-scale implementation of “green” technologies including, first of all, wind energy technology. It’s clear that this process requires time and investments.

It should be noted that Ukraine has already made real steps to promote local energy resources solutions. The current law on “green” (feed-in tariff) has allowed establishing a national wind energy sector solely through the private investments, and as a result, Ukraine has taken the first place in wind energy development among the former USSR countries. Total installed wind capacity of Ukraine is 30 times higher than the cumulative capacity of all wind power plants installed in Russia.

The Green Energy sector is one of the key tools in strengthening energy security and political stability of our country. World experience has conclusively shown that wind energy development encourages implementation of new high-tech technologies, creates new jobs and increases the competitiveness and economic development of the country.

The Ukrainian Wind Energy Association is confident in the successful development of the national wind energy sector, primarily in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, currently the most energy-deficit region of Ukraine, and in the southeast of the country.

We appeal to the global wind community to condemn aggressive actions of the Russian Federation against the Ukraine as unacceptable in a democratic world, and support the development of wind energy in Ukraine with your technologies, knowledge and investments.
