Press conference 'The use of wind energy in Ukraine: Opportunities and Prospects” dedicated to Global Wind Day

The press conference "The use of wind energy in Ukraine: Opportunities and Prospects" dedicated to Global Wind Day took place on June 14, 2012 at a press center of the online newspaper "Obozrevatel". Andrei Konechenkov, Chairman of the Board of the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association, Alexander Shcherbatyuk, former Head of the construction of Ochakovskaya wind farm and Nikolay Savchuk, Member of the Board of the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association, Small Wind Energy Department participated in it.

Global Wind Day is a worldwide event that occurs annually on June 15. On this day hundreds public events are conducted around the world, anyone can visit a wind farm, meet experts, attend various events devoted to wind energy and find a response to all questions related to the modern wind energy. Since 2011 Ukraine has officially participated in the event.

2011 was a landmark year for wind energy sector in Ukraine and went down in industry's history as a year of implementation of the first private commercial wind projects in Ukraine. Remarkable is the fact that for the first time modern MW-class wind turbines were installed in the country.  The "green" tariff introduced in the country in 2009 was in the past years and still remains the main driving engine for the development of wind power in Ukraine.

European Wind Energy Association EWEA, Global Wind Energy Council GWEC in cooperation with national wind energy associations coordinate the activities devoted to Global Wind Day around the world.  In Ukraine Ukrainian Wind Energy Association acts as an initiator and coordinator of Global Wind Day.
