It was reported by the Chairman of the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association Andriy Konechenkov at the meeting of the Public Council under the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine.
On June 11, the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine published the updated draft of the Energy Strategy of Ukraine till 2030, where the requirements of the Energy Community to increase the share of renewable energy in national energy balance were not taken into account.
«Analyzing the Energy Strategy, it becomes clear that it aims at the development of traditional energy. At that time renewable energy development is put on the last place», said A. Konechenkov. The authors of the project argue that renewable energy is not profitable and should be invested primarily by private business companies. At that time the implementation of traditional energy projects needs state financial support.
It is unreasonable to say that investing in renewable energy makes no sense» - said the Chairman of the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association.
All members of the Public Council supported the idea of amending the energy strategy. The Public Council's members decided to convene a Public Hearing on amending the Energy Strategy of Ukraine till 2030. The event is scheduled for early July.
All members of the Public Council unanimously supported and put their signatures on petition addressed to the President of Ukraine and the Secretary of National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. The petition asking for reviewing and amending the energy strategy of Ukraine with respect to the fast development of the national Renewable Energy industry has been forwarded today, June 27th, 2012, to the Administration of the President and the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine
