The 6 International Forum on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in Ukraine REF 2014 lasted two days and finished its work on October 15. A special roundtable session devoted to the wind energy issues was moderated by a Chairman of the Board of the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association Andriy Konechenkov. Among speakers there were Sergei Dubovik, Deputy Head of State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine; Anton Safonov, Head of Business Development dpt, MC "Wind Parks of Ukraine"; Yaroslav Shpak, Chief Engineer, "Eco-Optima" and Mats Lundin, a member of the board of directors, "Vindkraft Ukraine”.
The participants of the roundtable discussion identified the main barriers hindering the further successful development of the industry, including, above all, the numerous attempts made by the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine to limit incentive mechanisms to support the development of renewable energy sources, in particular, to reduce "green" tariff rate, which is a violation of applicable laws. Much attention was paid to such issues as the EC requirement to cancel the local component demand, the problems associated with the lack of transparency in the issues related to connection of new wind farms to the grid and other violations of the current legislation.
At the same time it should be noted that the Ukrainian wind power sector has shown that the electricity generation from a local clean energy source not only provide the consumers with reliable energy, but also create new jobs and develop national industry. "We don’t have to pay and fight for wind. Wind means peace. And today it is the most crucial issue for our country”, stressed Andriy Konechenkov, Chairman of the Board of the UWEA.
