The Ukrainian Wind Energy Association (UWEA) and the Swedish Wind Energy Association (SWEA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance collaboration in wind energy development. The agreement aims to leverage Sweden’s expertise and investment potential to support Ukraine’s energy transition and post-war recovery.
Recognizing the critical role of wind energy in ensuring energy security and achieving sustainability goals, the MoU outlines key areas of cooperation, including knowledge exchange, joint research, policy support, and investment facilitation. The partnership will prioritize both onshore and offshore wind energy projects, which are vital to Ukraine’s long-term energy independence.
Andriy Konechenkov, Chairman of the UWEA Board, stated: “The signing of this Memorandum marks an important milestone in strengthening Ukrainian-Swedish cooperation in wind energy development. Sweden has long been a leader in renewable energy, and its experience, technological expertise, and investment support are crucial for Ukraine’s post-war recovery and energy transition. Despite the challenges of war, wind power has proven its resilience, ensuring energy security for Ukraine and laying the foundation for a sustainable future. Expanding our cooperation with Sweden will accelerate the development of both onshore and offshore wind power, reinforcing Ukraine’s energy independence. Swedish investors have played an important role in Ukraine’s renewable energy sector even before the war, bringing not only capital but also high standards of project implementation. We highly value our previous experience working with Swedish partners and are confident that this collaboration will continue to grow, driving innovation and strengthening Ukraine’s position in the European energy market.”
Daniel Badman, CEO of the Swedish Wind Energy Association, added: “Energy security is at the heart of the European agenda right now, and a common interest for us all. Breaking free from Russian energy supply is both a driving force and the effect of European renewable energy expansion. We have already seen several initiatives from member companies sharing equipment with the Ukrainian market, and we are hoping that this initiative will strengthen the bonds between us, increasing future cooperation.”
The MoU will facilitate joint initiatives, including working visits, industry events, and research projects, with a focus on advancing Ukraine’s wind energy sector.
Both associations will work closely to align policies and strategies that foster investment and innovation. This agreement underscores the growing commitment of European wind energy associations to support Ukraine’s resilience and clean energy transition.
