On 21 February 2025, the UWEA launched the first in a series of professional online events scheduled for the year. The webinar focused on the quality of wind turbine foundations - an essential element in the construction of modern wind energy facilities. Given Ukraine’s complex geological conditions and diverse soil types, selecting optimal foundation solutions is critical for developers, construction companies, and wind farm operators.
The event featured speakers from UWEA member companies, including BUREAU VERITAS UKRAINE, Sika Ukraine LLC, and MC-Bauchemie Ukraine.
During the webinar, industry experts underscored that foundation quality directly impacts the stability, longevity, and safe operation of wind energy installations. Andriy Konechenkov, Chairman of the UWEA Board and webinar moderator, emphasized in his opening remarks: “Inadequate foundation quality control can lead to uneven settlement of structures, premature wear, or even turbine failure.”

Daria Bezruchenko, Product Manager for Inspection and Certification at BUREAU VERITAS UKRAINE, presented the role of independent technical inspections in wind energy projects. She outlined the key stages of foundation, site, and road construction planning. “Independent technical inspections play a crucial role in mitigating risks associated with material defects or design errors. This not only protects project budgets but also enhances overall safety and efficiency. BUREAU VERITAS UKRAINE is a market leader in testing, inspection, and technical auditing of foundation structures,” she stated.
Representatives from Sika Ukraine LLC, Kostiantyn Horbachov, Head of the Wind Energy Division, and Oleksii Huniak, Product Engineer in the Concrete Department, provided insights into advanced waterproofing solutions for underground foundation sections and precision grouting techniques. They highlighted materials designed for extreme temperatures and harsh weather conditions. “Sika Ukraine offers a full range of solutions for wind energy projects, including surface protection, bonding, joint sealing, injection systems, high-performance concrete additives, grouting, repair, and waterproofing,” they noted.
From MC-Bauchemie Ukraine, Artem Zakharov, Project Manager, and Yevheniia Tykholaz, Head of the Berezan Laboratory, showcased the capabilities of their concrete testing lab. Their facility conducts cement and aggregate testing, concrete mix design, and thermal emission studies. The speakers also presented an extensive portfolio of concrete additives produced by MC-Bauchemie Ukraine.
