From November 22 to 29, 2024, representatives of the Board and Secretariat of the UWEA, together with NPC Ukrenergo, undertook a working visit to the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The visit aimed to deepen partnerships between Ukrainian and Dutch wind energy sectors, exchange views on rebuilding Ukraine's energy system, and develop joint project initiatives. Key discussions focused on the development of onshore and offshore wind energy, as well as implementing renovated wind turbines and freshly produced WTGs with a unit capacity of up to 1 MW to meet the energy needs of small and medium-sized businesses.
This initiative was made possible through the efforts of NedZero, the Netherlands Wind Energy Association, with support from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ukraine and funding from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy of the Netherlands. The visit was built on the successfully implemented project aimed at fostering wind energy rollout in Ukraine.
In addition to B2B meetings, the week-long visit included participation in key industry events such as the international conference "Decentralized Energy Solutions for Ukraine's Security" on November 25 in The Hague and the two-day Offshore Wind Conference and Exhibition in Amsterdam. During the latter, UWEA representatives presented the current status of Ukraine's onshore wind sector and its technical offshore wind potential in a dedicated session "Onshore and Offshore Wind Solutions for Ukraine's Economic Resilience," which was held on November 26, 2024.
The session featured speakers such as UWEA Board Members Galyna Shmidt and Ivan Bondarchuk (partner at LCF law firm) alongside UWEA’s Head of Analytics and MCL's Business Development Director Kateryna Knysh. Their presentations explored market conditions, legislative and regulatory frameworks, and investment opportunities in Ukraine's wind energy sector, capturing the audience's keen interest.
The highlight of the visit was the ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Partnership and Cooperation between UWEA and NedZero. The memorandum was signed by Andriy Konechenkov, Chairman of the UWEA Board, and Jan Vos, Chairman of NedZero, marking a milestone in fostering collaboration between Ukrainian and Dutch wind energy industries.

The visit also included meetings with Dutch companies and their production facilities, such as Business in Wind, the UWEA member company specializing in refurbishing and commissioning used wind turbines, and EWT, a leading producer of wind turbines with a unit capacity of up to 1 MW. Both companies expressed clear intentions to expand their operations in Ukraine. Additionally, the delegation visited Eemshaven Port, a major industrial and energy hub hosting large-scale renewable and conventional energy projects, as well as the submarine cable manufacturing facility of TKF.
A dedicated meeting with TenneT, the Dutch transmission system operator, was arranged for Roman Grabchak, Head of the Balance Reliability Department at NPC Ukrenergo, highlighting a mutual commitment to knowledge exchange in grid management.
The UWEA delegation also invited NedZero’s leadership to meet with DRI, a company developing wind energy projects across Europe, to further solidify ties.
UWEA extends its gratitude to all partners involved in organizing this pivotal visit, particularly NedZero, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ukraine, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), and the companies that welcomed the Ukrainian delegation. Together, these efforts will pave the way for a robust collaboration between the Ukrainian and Dutch wind energy sectors, driving innovation and sustainability in a time of global energy transformation.
