On 15 November 2019, DTEK in the partnership with the Danish company Vestas commissioned 100 MW Orlivska Wind Power Plant in Zaporizhzhia region. In this way, the company has reached one of its strategic goals - 1 GW of renewable energy by 2020.
Orlivska WPP is the third DTEK wind power project. The plant is located on the shore of the Sea of Azov in Zaporizhzhia Region and consists of 26 high-tech wind turbines manufactured by Vestas, 3.8 MW each. The investments in the Orlivska WPP project amounted to 131 million euros, 40 million euros of them are services and equipment supplied by the Ukrainian companies. Orlivska WPP will generate annually 380 mln kWh of green electricity, which is enough to supply 190 thousand private households. The plant will reduce CO2 emissions by 400 thousand tons per year.
CEO of DTEK RENEWABLES, Philip Leckebusch urged all concerned to unite around “green” energy and a clean future: “Two years ago, DTEK officially announced its strategic goal - 1 GW of renewable energy by the end of 2019. Today we have reached this goal. We have invested more than 1 billion euros in the renewable energy sector of Ukraine; and we have created the unique expertise that allowed us to implement these large-scale and innovative projects. We are confident that Ukraine can become the leader of decarbonization in Europe. By working closely with the government, local authorities and society, we can provide our country with safe and clean energy and create a sustainable, prosperous future”. Also, Mr. Philip thanked everyone involved in the construction of the Orlivska Wind Farm, especially to Orlivska Wind Farm Director Ivan Lyakh.
Igor Nus, Vestas Northern & Central Europe, also confirmed the unlimited leadership potential of Ukraine in the field of RES: “Notwithstanding all the political challenges for RES, Ukraine is an excellent hub for wind farms and RES development, which also contributes to strengthening our country's energy independence”.
Deputy Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration Andriy Antonov is convinced that “green” energy is not only about energy independence, investments, taxes and new jobs, but also about whole life: “Nuclear power, which now accounts for the bulk of generation, is not eternal. We are on the cusp of “green” and clean energy era”.
In turn, Head of Renewable Energy Sources Department of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine, Yurii Shafarenko pointed out: “Wind energy is one of the fastest growing renewable energy sources in Ukraine and in winter, when the level of energy consumption is higher than average, most electricity is generated by wind.
Andriy Konehcenkov, Chairman of the UWEA Board noted: “Orlivska Wind Power Plant is another step towards Ukraine's energy independence, environment conservation and higher life expectancy of Ukrainians.”
Overall, in 2019, DTEK RENEWABLES launched green energy projects totaling 740 MW: 200 MW Nikopolska SPP, 240 MW Pokrovska SPP, 200 MW Prymorska WPP, and 100 MW Orlivska WPP. DTEK RENEWABLES’ projects also include 200 MW Botievska WPP and 10 MW Tryfanovska SPP implemented some years ago. All RES facilities will generate almost 2.5 billion kWh of the renewable energy, and save annually 2.6 million tons of CO2.
