A round table devoted to key challenges for the new electricity market was held on 23 September 2016 in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
The event was organised by the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Fuel and Energy Complex, Nuclear Policy and Nuclear Safety with the support of the UK Government.
The day before, on 22 September the Verkhovna Rada adopted in first reading the draft law on the electric energy market, coordinated with the Energy Community Secretariat, which provides for introduction of a new market model. Draft law No.4493 received votes of 237 Members of Parliament.
Andriy Konechenkov, Chairman of the UWEA's Board, actively participated in the event. In his presentation Mr. Konechenkov highlighted conditions for successful RE development in Ukraine in the new model of electricity market.

Every year, on June 15, Global Wind Day, the UWEA holds events dedicated to the development of global and national wind energy industry. This year Global Wind Day was a special one - the world community celebrated its 10th anniversary.
On June 15 the teleconference Minsk, Belarus - Kiev, Ukraine WIND POWER - A KEY TOOL IN THE FIGHT AGAINST GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE was organised by the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association (UWEA), Scientific and Technical Center Psycheya, Green Network (Belarus) International technical assistance project “Removing barriers to wind energy development in Belarus" (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of Belarus / UNDP-GEF). Leading wind power companies from both countries participated in the event. Wind experts discussed challenges and opportunities for the development of wind power technologies in Ukraine and in Belarus.

The National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission of Ukraine (NEURC) by its decision taken at the Commission's meeting held on 2 June 2016 obliged State Enterprise Energorynok to introduce changes in already concluded PPAs between Energorynok and producers of electricity from RES to envisage the term of PPAs until 1 January 2030 and to conclude such contracts in the future only with the mentioned term.
As expected, it should resolve the existing issue when Energorynok signs PPAs with producers under feed-in tariff only for one year and then producers have to extend them annually. In particular, this has created problems with getting financing for renewable energy projects because financial institutions have not considered one year PPAs as bankable enough even though the Ukrainian legislation itself guarantees the feed-in tariff for commissioned renewable energy power plants until 1 January 2030.
Today REN21 published the most comprehensive annual overview of the state of renewable energy. The Renewables 2016 Global Status Report reveals that renewables are now firmly established as competitive, mainstream sources of energy in many countries around the world.
2015 was a record year for renewable energy installations. Renewable power generating capacity saw its largest increase ever, with an estimated 147 GW added. Modern renewable heat capacity also continued to rise, and renewables use expanded in the transport sector. Distributed renewable energy is advancing rapidly to close the gap between the energy haves- and have-nots.
These results were driven by several factors. First and foremost, renewables are now cost competitive with fossil fuels in many markets.

On 26 May 2016 Kiev hosted Energy Congress ENERGY SPRING 2016 - the most relevant and influential event devoted to the trends of Ukrainian markets of traditional and renewable energy as well as energy efficiency. During the meeting the strategy of the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry on the development and optimization of specialized industries in the coming period was presented by Igor Nasalyk, a newly appointed Minister of Energy of Ukraine. The congress became the real platform for dialogue between government and business, uniting professionals from Ukraine and abroad. 25 May 2016 has become an outstanding day for the Ukrainian wind power industry. On this day the official ceremony launched the construction start of a wind park Prychernomorskiy in Mykolaiv region.
Prychernomorskiy wind park – the 6th phase of Ochakovskaya wind power plant - will comprise two 2,5 MW wind turbines and one 3 MW wind turbine manufactured in Kramatorsk, Ukraine, under licence of the German company W2E. Currently Ochakovskaya WPP consists of two wind parks – Dmitrovskaya WPP (14 wind turbines) and Tuzlovskaya WPP (5 wind turbines) totalling 47,5 MW.
According to the CEO of the Management Company Wind Parks of Ukraine Vladislav Eremenko, in 2015 Ochakovskaya WPP generated almost 130 mln kWh of electricity -enough to power 50 thousand households. The company Wind Parks of Ukraine plans to increase the number of wind turbines installed at the wind plant up to 140 units, thus a total capacity of the Ochakivskaya WPP will reach 350 MW.
