Despite the terrorist attacks that took place in Paris on the night of 13 November 14, 2015, the annual conference and exhibition of the European Wind Energy Association EWEA 2015 took place in Paris on November 17-20, 2015.
In their opening remarks both S?gol?ne Royal, the French Minister, and Vice-President Maro? ?ef?ovi? from the European Commission explicitly thanked EWEA for the decision to carry on as planned. Segolene Royal stressed that 'wind energy is part of the solution to ensure our global security'.
European Commission vice president for Energy Union Maros Sefcovic said that onshore wind being the cheapest energy if the legislative framework is right, that wind is the fastest growing renewable energy, and that offshore, particularly with a North Sea grid, has tremendous potential to provide a new wave of green energy.
As of October 2015 the installed capacity of the European wind power sector reached 142 GW, or 35% of the global wind energy industry. Despite the fact that in a number of countries wind share exceeds 25% in electricity generation, the Europeans do not plan to reduce the growth rate of wind industry, increasing capacities of both onshore and offshore wind energy sectors. Today, the annual contribution of renewable energy to the European economy amounts to € 130 bln, €35 bln in export revenues. The share of the European wind turbine manufacturers in the global wind market comes to 40%.
Despite the difficult situation in the Paris, EWEA 2015 was as always, successful, demonstrating the role of wind energy technologies in tackling the climate change problems and in ensuring global security and reliability in energy supply. Ukrainian Wind Energy Association took an active part in the EWEA 2015. In total, during 4 days from 17 November 20 more than 6500 persons attended the EWEA 2015.
