On October 16-17, 2019, the 11th Sustainable Energy Forum of Eastern Europe was successfully held in Kyiv.
Around 600 delegates from 37 countries including owners, top managers of the international companies, investors and enterprisers involved in sustainable energy sector, discussed legal and financial issues of business development in renewable energy and energy efficiency, green tariff and auctions, new electricity market model in Ukraine, distributed generation, energy storage technologies and smart energy systems. The Ukrainian Wind Energy Association was the Forum's partner.
“Four billion euros of “green” investments over the past 5 years demonstrate great importance and success of clean energy and energy efficiency projects in Ukraine. It is also a significant impetus for the intensification of economic processes. And this trend should continue. Taking into account innovations and RE equipment cost reduction, clean energy must continue to progress in Ukraine”, said Sergiy Savchuk, Chairman of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation of Ukraine.
Philipp Lekebusch, DTEK Renewables CEO, placed great emphasis on the effective transition from the system of “green” tariffs towards “green” auctions. Looking at the experience of Germany and Spain, Philipp Lekebusch noted: “Today Ukraine has a unique advantage. While catching up with European countries – leaders in Renewable Energy industry, the country can adopt the best practices. It will result in introduction of the effective system and benefits from RES energy low prices for the needs of Ukraine”.
Andriy Konechenkov, Chairman of the UWEA Board and WWEA Vice-President stressed: “I am convinced that nothing could ever stop development of renewable energy. To make it competitive and provide investors with guarantees to ensure adequate funding for the RES projects are key issues for Ukraine. We should work more closely together to address present-day challenges in a more balanced way and create a competitive energy market in Ukraine”.
The three-day SEF's programme included separate EF conferences devoted to solar energy market (SEF SOLAR), energy efficiency (SEF ENERGY EFFICIENCY) and bioenergy and biofuel (SEF BIOENERGY).
The third annual ceremony SEF AWARDS 2019 was held as part of the Forum. The Ukrainian company Vindkraft Ukraine was recognized as the best company in the category “Best Wind Energy Project – Eastern Europe”.
