Güriş Holding Co. Inc, one of the leading groups in Turkey in the construction, industrial and energy sectors, celebrated on 21 September 2019 the grand opening ceremony of its wind farm Ovid Wind in Ovidiopolsky district in Odessa region. 32,4 MW wind farm Ovid Wind is the first wind energy project implemented in the region. The plant consists of 9 GE 3.6-137 wind turbines with a unit capacity of 3.6 MW and a hub height of 131 m.
In her welcoming address Acting Chairman of the Odessa Regional State Administration Svitlana Shatalova emphasized: "I am glad to welcome all of you here. The wind farm Ovid Wind is the first one in Odessa region. Energy and the modern world are interconnected. There will be neither development nor future without energy, and this is an axiom. In the era when we face many environmental challenges, “green” energy is our future. I would like to thank Güriş Holding, all its employees and workers who have invested million of dollars and their hearts in this project and in our economy.
Yuriy Dimchoglo, Deputy Head of the Odessa Regional Council: “Odessa region faces a problem with grid connection. Odessa oblenergo and Ukrenergo grids in Odessa region are overloaded with existing solar projects. We have installed almost 1000 MW of solar capacities, and this creates a problem for new wind farms. I believe that 100-150 MW of wind capacities could still be added to the grid in the south of the Odessa region, famous for its wind resource. Ovid Wind is a landmark project; it has demonstrated feasibility of such projects”.
“This is the first wind energy project in Ukraine implemented by foreign investor, and this is the first wind farm constructed in Odessa region. Wind turbines manufactured by General Electric, one of the leaders in the global wind energy industry, first in Ukraine were installed at Ovid Wind site. This fact proves the attractiveness of the Ukrainian wind energy sector for global wind equipment manufacturers, - stressed Andriy Konechenkov, Chairman of the UWEA Board, Vice President of the WWEA.
Slava Feklin, GE National Executive Ukraine, Georgia and Armenia: “The Ovidiopol wind farm will provide more than 40,000 Ukrainian families with clean electricity. Uninterruptible supply of electricity will be assured, inter alia, through our company's hybrid solutions used at the substation. And we committed ourselves to ensure the reliability and proper functioning of the wind farm Ovid Wind for many years to come”.
Commenting on the company's activity in Ukraine, Deputy CEO, Güriş İnşaat ve Mühendislik A.Ş.,Yumit Yamanturk said: “Today we have officially opened our wind farm Ovid Wind. We hope that this isn't the last wind project we implement in Ukraine. We work hard to reach it. This fact also shows our confidence in the Ukrainian economy and Ukrainian energy sector”.
