On September 20, 2019, specialists and heads of environmental and legal departments of industrial enterprises, top managers responsible for environmental aspects, leading experts of “ECOBUSINESS” magazine and Public Union “Professional Association of Ecologists of Ukraine” (PAEU) gathered in Odessa to discuss recent changes in the Ukrainian environmental legislation and new market rules. Public Union “Ukrainian Wind Energy Association” (UWEA) was the event partner.
Andriy Konechekov, Chairman of the UWEA Board, Vice President of the WWEA: “Today's discussion has revealed many issues coursed by the recent merger of the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine. A new Ministry of Energy and Environmental Protection of Ukraine should clearly define the future of renewables in Ukraine as an environmentally friendly energy sources, which, in turn, will lead to a greenhouse gases emission reduction in line with Ukraine's commitments under the Paris Agreement”.
Lyudmyla Tsyganok, President of PAEU, editor-in-chief of “ECOBUSINEES” magazine: Demand expressed by business entities and investors from different sectors of economy for specific practical solutions in the field of environmental safety, their desire to understand the business prospects is very high. Odessa is no exception to this. During the period of turbulent changes in environmental sphere, the knowledge and professionalism of the ecologist at the enterprise is the key to the effective work of a company and its prospects, as well as a protection tool against manipulation. Comments and proposals by the workshop’s participants will be processed by the PAEU experts and formulated as legislative proposals aimed at solving the identified problems”.
In her presentation “On Environment Impact Assessment of Wind Energy Projects” Galyna Shmidt, UWEA Board Member, stressed the importance of ensuring the transparency of project solutions and the balance of environmental and economic interests: “Public consultation is a key aspect of the environmental impact assessment procedure”.
