On April 6 STC «PSICHEA» jointly with the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association conducted an expert-analytical roundtable Prospects for the Development of the Electricity Sector in Ukraine: Challenges and Solutions. The leading Ukrainian energy experts, representatives of the national wind industry participated in the event.
The Roundtable was focused on achieving energy independence, power development plan and an important and integral role the wind industry could play in the process. The participants also discussed ways of improving the transparency of information on the energy market of Ukraine and issues related to the cost of the added power for different technologies as well as efficiency technologies in terms of increasing the power grid capacity.
Wind power industry is able to supply at least 15% of electricity in Ukraine - such opinion was expressed by Andrei Konechenkov, UWEA Chairman.
“There has been a lot of debate in Ukraine as to how much electricity can the wind industry provide. In 1998 our estimation was 16 000 MW. Today, experts give different figures from 12 000 to 24 000 MW. I think the share of 15% wind energy in the electricity consumption is a very good and real indicator”, said Andriy Konechenkov.
“The worldwide wind capacity has reached 369,5 thousand MW that equals to 4% in electricity generation in the world”, added Mr. Konechenkov. Speaking about the leading wind countries he stressed that the successful wind development in those countries would be impossible without state support.
