MEETING OF THE WORKING GROUP ON NEW SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY IN UKRAINE

On 25 July 2018 the Preparatory meeting of the working group on drafting new support system for Renewable Energy was organised by the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Fuel and Energy Complex, Nuclear Policy and Nuclear Safety. The relevant draft bills registered in the Verkhovna Rada (No.8444, No.8444-1, No.8444-2, No.8449-3, No.8449-4, No.8449-5, No.8449-6 and No8449-7) were discussed by the participants. The meeting was attended by PMs of Ukraine, representatives of the Central Executive Authorities, the EBRD and JSB UKRGASBANK, industry associations and law firms actively involved in the renewable energy market of Ukraine. OPEN MEETING OF THE UWEA BOARD

Open Meeting of the UWEA Board devoted to introduction RE auctions in Ukraine took place on 4 July 2018 in Business Conference Hall IVERIA. Considering the immense implications of the auctions system for the renewable energy market in Ukraine and wind sector in particular, a decision was made to hold an Open Meeting of the Board with both the UWEA’s members and representatives of other non-governmental organizations and mass media. TWO WIND FARMS TO BE BUILT IN ODESSA REGION

Оn 23 June 2018, the Odessa State Regional Administration and two wind power companies, namely Ukraine Power Resources and Yuzhne Energy (Southern Energy), signed a Memorandum of Cooperation aimed at implementing two wind power projects in the Limanskiy district, Odessa region. The total investments amount to 270 mln euros. The company with American investors is planning to construct 120 MW wind farm while a developer from Lithuania – 72 MW wind farm. Both companies are full members of the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association.

Today is Global Wind Day, an opportunity for citizens around the world to learn more about and show their support for wind power. It's also an opportunity for companies to showcase their technologies and contributions to local economic development and job creation at a more grass roots level. EUROPEAN INSTITUTIONS STRIKE OVERNIGHT DEAL ON 32% BINDING RENEWABLE ENERGY TARGET

This is a significant improvement over the target of at least 27% the European Commission tabled in November 2016. Dramatic progress in recent years on the competitiveness of renewables notably cost reductions in onshore and offshore technologies were a major driver for higher ambition at EU level. The Renewables Directive sets out concrete measures to underpin the delivery of the target. The Directive will provide rules on the design of support mechanisms aimed at providing investor certainty. Member States will be allowed to have technology-specific auctions and will have to provide at least five years visibility on public support, including the timing, volumes and budget for auctions. The Directive also includes an investment protection clause preventing retroactive policy changes from impacting existing renewable energy projects. UKRAINE COULD LAUNCH GREEN ELECTRICITY AUCTIONS FROM 2020

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine yesterday, on  7 June 2018, registered a bill № 8449 “On Amendments to Some Laws of Ukraine on Ensuring Competitive Conditions for the Production of Electricity from Alternative Energy Sources”. The bill was developed by 17  deputies representing 5 Committees of the Verkhovna Rada.
