Lviv’s 17th International Economic Forum “The Driving Force Behind Ukraine’s Industrial Revolution” took take place in the Western Ukrainian capital on 26-27 October 2017. On 24 October 2017 the report Ukraine's Transition to Renewable Energy by 2050 was presented at the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center. The report demonstrates how Ukraine can switch to safe and modern energy, and why it is more profitable for Ukraine than to continue to rely on traditional types of energy - coal, oil and nuclear power. Forecast of further development of the national energy sector by 2050 have been conducted based on two modelling scenarios - basic (business as usual) and alternative. These scenarios show how the transition from fossil fuels to renewable sources of energy (solar, wind, biomass, etc.) could be achieved and its possible economic and social consequences. Vestas will provide 12 of its V136-3.6MW turbines for the 60.2MW first phase of the Kennedy Energy Park in north Queensland. Kennedy Phase 1 will also use 15MW of solar panels and a 2MW/4MWh lithium ion battery storage system, supplied by Elon Musk's Tesla, all managed by a control system customised by Vestas. The company will also provide a 15-year service agreement for the site, which includes a full-scope service package for the turbines as well as scheduled maintenance for the project’s other components. According to developer WindLab, the project will take roughly 12 months to construct and is expected to be fully operational before the end of 2018, creating more than 100 local jobs during construction. 3.2 MW wind turbine produced by Fuhrlaender Windtechnology LLC was officially commissioned on 18 October 2017 in Nikolayev region at Prychrmonorskyy wind farm, which is a part of Tuzlovskaya WPP. Addressing the participants of the ceremony dedicated to the commissioning of the first 3+ MW wind turbine of Ukrainian origin, Yuri Shevchenko, a representative of the manufacturer listed the components of the wind turbine, which production has been already set up in the country. “If to consider all components of the wind turbine, the production of the tower is one the simplest operations. Meanwhile, it allows to have a 5% premium of the eligible “green” tariff rate in accordance with Ukrainian legislation. Another important component, namely an anchor cage, is also produced at our plant. We also have a hub production including its casting, assembling and testing” . On 6 October 2017 State Finance Institution for Investments (SFII) and Public Union Ukrainian Wind Energy Association signed a Memorandum on Partnership and Cooperation. The parties will make efforts towards creating a balanced energy mix in Ukraine, promoting the widespread adoption and sustainable use of RES in the electric power industry based on best practice and experience gained in RE and developing national production of the RE equipment. The SFII was established according to the Resolution No.654 dated 13 April 2000 taken by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. The institution belongs to the area of the Ministry of economic development and trade of Ukraine and has several regional offices. The purpose of SFII is providing a financial support to business entities of various property categories within the frameworks of the State innovative policy.
Official opening ceremony of Phase I of Novotroitska wind power plant was held in Kherson region on 29 September 2017. The Second Short-Term Wind Forecasting workshop organised by Ukraine – Denmark Energy Center (UDEC) under the Technical Assistance Project and initiated by the UWEA took place place in Kyiv on 26 September 2017. The workshop is a follow-up activity from the first UDEC workshop conducted in Kiev on 5 July 2017.
