Production of one of the most complex and large-sized wind turbine parts – nacelle frame was presented in Kramatorks late December. Such structural element of a wind turbine has been manufactured in Ukraine for the first time.
The order for production of the nacelle frame for a 2.5 MW wind turbine was placed by FWT-Ukraine which has been actively developing its own production of components for the wind industry. In 2013, the company acquired a license from the German company W2E (Wind-to-Energy) for the production of wind turbines of 2.05, 2.5 and 3 MW.
The nacelle frame has been produced by the specialists of Novokramatorsky Mashinostroitelny Zavod - NKMZ (Novoktamatorsk Machine Building Works). Oleksander Titarenko, Director for Production of Metallurgic and Tunnelling Equipment at NKMZ, said that it took two and half months for the works to produce the first nacelle frame: “Our next steps aims at the technology rationalization, related labor costs and energy consumption reduction. We also plan to improve timing as well, since a nacelle frame could be shipped every ten days."
FWT-Ukraine plans to continue their cooperation with NKMZ in future. Yuri Kozinski, Deputy Director for Production at FWT-Ukraine, noted: “These wind turbine nacelle frames have been manufactured at a very high technology level in accordance with all European standards. They will be used for wind turbines at a wind farm "Wind Park Antratsitovsky".
In mid-December 2013 Ukrainian company Mykolaiv Shipyard “Ocean” in cooperation with the Danish company VESTAS, one of the world's largest manufacturers of wind turbines, implemented a joint pilot project to overload components and assembly units for wind generators.
"Against the background of ongoing discussions regarding “local content” rules, two manufacturers of wind turbines, which are currently leading in the wind market of Ukraine, namely, FWT-Ukraine and VESTAS, already comply with this requirement. UWEA supports such steps taken by wind energy companies aimed at developing a national engineering sector", - stressed Andriy Konechenkov, Chairman of UWEA.
