According to GE press release published on 25 July 2019 GE and LongWing Energy S.C.A. (“LongWing”) reached financial close on a $150MM debt financing package for the first phase of the Zaporizhia Wind Farm, in the Zaporizhia region in southeast Ukraine.The phase one 98-megawatt (“MW”) project is expected to produce over 330,000MWh of clean energy per year and power approximately 170,000 households. The transaction marks GE’s fourth wind farm project in Ukraine to be financed and equipped with GE wind turbine technology. Financing will enable the build-out of phase one, which will comprise 27 GE Renewable Energy 3.6 MW onshore wind turbines with a rotor diameter of 137 meter, a hub height of 110 meters, and a 15-year Full-Service Agreement (“FSA”). On 18 July, 2019 in Kiev, the State Enterprise Production Association Yuzhny Machine-Building Plant named after A.M. Makarov, the State Enterprise Plant Electrotyazhmash, WIND FARM LLC and the German company Fuhrländer International Sustainable Business Management signed a Memorandum of Intent on Cooperation. WIND FARM has been implementing a wind project in the Nikol and Mangush districts of the Donetsk region with a total installed capacity of 800 MW. On 12 July 2019, a briefing “Manipulations with Environmental Information: Price for Ukraine” initiated by the Professional Association of Environmentalists of Ukraine was held at the Ukrainian News Information Agency. The briefing brought together the heads of 15 associations of Ukraine active in such sectors of Ukrainian economy as energy, metallurgy and agriculture and water management. Manipulations with Environmental information aimed at reaching some political or commercial purposes have recently become a dangerous trend in the world, which, unfortunately, has also spread to Ukraine. On 10 July 2019 leading RE industry associations held a press conference titled “The Kyiv District Administration Court Judgement could generate a crisis in the Renewable Energy Sector of Ukraine”. Nearly half the world’s electricity will come from renewable energy by 2050 as costs of wind, solar and battery storage continue to plummet. According to a report released by Bloomberg New Energy Finance on 18 June 2019, since 2010, the cost of wind power has dropped by 49%, and solar has plummeted 85%, according to BNEF. That makes them cheaper than new coal or gas plants in two-thirds of the world. Battery storage costs, meanwhile, have dropped 85% since 2010. Coal will be the biggest loser in the power sector, with its share of global generation plunging from 37% today to 12% in 2050, BNEF said. The move away from fossil fuel has sweeping implications for energy markets and the fight to stave off climate change. Wind, solar and batteries are poised to enable the power sector to meet its share of emission cuts required under the Paris climate agreement, at least until 2030, according to BNEF. Every year, on June 15, the whole world celebrates the GLOBAL WIND DAY. The modern wind energy, one of the fastest growing sectors, operates today in more than 100 countries around the world presenting proven, reliable and widely available energy generating technology. Despite the difficult economic and political situation in Ukraine, national wind power sector continues to grow, allowing Ukraine to remain the position of the wind power leader in the post-Soviet space and among a number of EC countries. 2019 will be a record year for the Ukrainian wind energy sector. According to the National regulator NEURC, 232 MW of new wind capacities were added in Ukraine by 1 May 2019. The UWEA believes this figure will at least double by the end of the year. At the same time, the “green” tariff for electricity generated from wind is the lowest one among all renewable energy sources in Ukraine, and today, “wind” electricity begins to compete on price with “coal” electricity....
