Novoazovskaya wind power plant (Donetsk region), one of the largest private-owned wind energy projects in Ukraine, will receive an EBRD loan of up to EUR 33.3 million and a parallel loan of up to EUR 15.5 million from the Clean Technology Fund (CTF). According to the EBRD press service a wind farm with installed capacity of 57.5 MW, consisting of 23 wind turbines Fürhlander, generates about 175 GWh of electricity per year which reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 140,000 tons. “The funding is the first "limited recourse" financing deal in the Ukrainian renewable energy sector, which means that Novoazovskaya WPP - established solely to generate electricity - does not require external guarantees for the purposes of loan repayment. The last summer was busy one on researches in the field of wind turbine sound, with new developments continuing to cast doubt on anti-wind groups' claims. Perhaps the most telling is a new study from Canada's Pembina Institute, looking at wind farm complaints (or rather, the lack of wind farm complaints) in the province of Alberta, where some of the earliest wind farms in Canada were installed. The European wind industry has grown so rapidly over the past decade that it is facing a critical shortage of skilled personnel, a new report reveals. There is currently a shortage of 7,000 qualified personnel required by the European wind energy sector each year, a figure that could increase to 15,000 by 2030 if the number of graduates taking courses relevant to the industry does not rise. The figures come from a new report by the European Wind Energy Technology Platform (TPWind), based on research by renewable energy consultancy GL Garrad Hassan: “Workers wanted: The EU wind energy sector skills gap”. A full 78 percent of companies that responded to the TPWind questionnaire said they “found it difficult or very difficult to find suitably trained staff”. On 27 June 2013 the National Commission that Performs State Regulation in the Energy Sector (the "NERC") adopted a Procedure on Determination of Local Content for Power Plants, including Commissioned Power Plant Construction Stages (Start-up Complexes) Producing Electricity from Alternative Energy Sources (Except for Blast Furnace and Coke Gases) (the "Procedure"). PRESS RELEASE Kiev, July 16,2013 All wind power plants in Ukraine generated more than 317 mln kWh of electricity during the first six months of 2013, accounting for 0.33% of the state's total electricity production for this period. "Green" electricity generated from wind and supplied to the Ukrainian power grid, has reduced CO2 emissions by 256,000 tons. According to a survey conducted by the experts of Ukrainian Wind Energy Association (UWEA) from January 1, 2013 to June 30, 2013 18.32 MW of new wind energy capacity were added in Ukraine. The total wind capacity reached 315.76 MW by June 30, 2013 out of which 290.76 MW were fully grid connected and have been selling electricity at "green" tariff. 277 new offshore wind turbines, totaling 1,045 megawatts (MW), were fully grid connected in Europe during the first six months of 2013. This is double compared to the same period in 2012 when 523.2 MW were installed. In addition, 268 foundations were installed and 254 turbines erected, all during the first 181 days of the year. Munich, 19 June 2013 - The Global Alliance for 100% Renewable Energy today crit icises many legislators in Europe for still lacking full commitment to the transformation to renewable energy. At the European inauguration of the new Alliance today in Munich, member organisations stated that renewable energy has become the key to Europe's future economic and industrial development. However, according to the Alliance, "there is still a huge gap between the overwhelming socio-economic and environmental benefits of renewable energy and the political will to set adequate targets."
