The German-Ukrainian Green Business Dialogue convened in Berlin on June 10, 2024, uniting German and Ukrainian renewable energy businesses with influential policymakers at the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC) 2024. On May 29, 2024, the UWEA hosted a highly informative webinar on the legal and technical aspects of constructing hybrid power plants in Ukraine. The event gathered energy business representatives, government officials, and other stakeholders. Hybrid power plants, which combine various types of RES, for example, “WPP+SPP”, contribute to more stable and predictable “green” electricity production. In addition, the integration of energy storage systems into these plants significantly enhances the operational flexibility and stability of the grid. FRIENDLY WIND TECHNOLOGY LLC, the UWEA member company, has recently launched a newly built wind turbine production facility in the Zakarpattia Region. Imagine a future where the energy that powers our lives comes not from burning fossil fuels, but from the clean, endless power of the wind. This was the vision shared with students in Svalyava and Volovets communities during special educational lessons on 13 and 14 May 2024, organized by the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association (UWEA). The project was implemented with the support of Atlas Volovets Energy. UWEA representatives visited schools in the Zakarpatia region to introduce students to the fascinating world of wind energy. The Ukraine Recovery Conference 2023, held in London, UK, demonstrated a clear interest from British private businesses in investing in the Ukrainian energy market, particularly in clean technologies and innovations. This interest was further solidified on 3 May 2024, when the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine announced the allocation of £16 million by the UK Government for the implementation of the first 13 innovative energy projects in Ukraine under the InnovateUkraine program. On April 30, 2024, the UWEA held the “Reclaiming the Wind: Legal Strategies For War Damage Recovery” webinar as part of its 2024 online series. Russia continues to target Ukrainian energy infrastructure with constant missile and drone attacks. Only in March-April 2024, the enemy damaged 80% of thermal power generation, leading to the loss of about 7 GW of IPS capacity. During that period, it was also reported that another wind turbine in the south of Ukraine had been damaged. In general, the World Bank estimated that the wind power industry has lost more than 50 million euros since the war began. On April 26, 2024, the Kyiv School of Economics, in partnership with the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, held a roundtable discussion titled “Business Development - The Main Driver of Ukraine’s Economic Recovery.” The discussion focused on the Ukraine Facility program (https://www.ukrainefacility.me.gov.ua), its reforms, development incentives, and Pillars-based financing principles, particularly emphasizing Pillar II. On April 09th, 2024, the UWEA Secretariat, along with numerous of its member companies, participated in the second post-mediation meeting initiated by the Energy Community Secretariat. The meeting was held following the Memorandum of Understanding for the Resolution of Problematic Issues in the Renewable Energy Industry of Ukraine signed in 2020 by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, NEURC, NPC “Ukrenergo”, and RE investors. On 20-22 March 2024, representatives of the UWEA Secretariat and a number of its member companies took part in the WindEurope Annual Event 2024 - a key gathering place for onshore and offshore wind energy, which this year was held in the capital of the Basque Country - Bilbao. The event aimed at advocating wind energy to ensure the livelihoods of Europeans, the energy security of the European region, and the preservation of its climate and nature, this year was held under the tagline “Our wind, our value - Creating value for Europe, living in line with European values”.
